Why Invest in a STEM/Digital Arts Networking Program?
STEM which is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, is multi discipline based which incorporates the integration of other disciplinary knowledge into a new whole. Technology helps us communicate; Math is language; Science and Engineering are the processes for thinking—which all leads to Innovation! STEM education is a process for teaching and learning that offers students opportunities to make sense of the world and take charge of their learning so they can understand issues, distill problems, and comprehend processes to lead to innovative solutions. In a STEM environment, there is less emphasis on activities that demonstrate science content and a greater focus on those activities that allow students to engage in real world problems and experiences through project-based, experiential learning activities that lead to higher level thinking.
All students benefit from the STEM programs because it teaches independent innovation and allows students to explore greater depths of all STEM subjects by utilizing the skills learned—this skill set will be required in order for today’s students to become tomorrow’s global leaders. All jobs are requiring workers to have a greater ability to think critically, work as a member of a team and independently, and close the performance gap between our American students and those being produced abroad.
STEM programs teach students how to create and present art and design that is technically sound, conceptually rich, and visually powerful. Students are encouraged to investigate the theoretical, aesthetic, and technical aspects of digital arts while providing hands-on experiences with state-of-the-art equipment. Digital Arts programs allow students to develop marketable skills in digital photography, 3D modeling, animation, digital illustration, video, web, interactive systems, digital printmaking and graphic design. Essential in these programs are the balance of both individual explorations and team-based collaborations.
With more than 60% of jobs occurring in a “hidden job market” where positions are not always advertised, Networking is essential to establish and build relationships. Many relationships can be fused at networking events where collaboration of the minds and teamwork spark interests and conversations. While many students avoid networking with peers, providing social forums which are rid of awkwardness and isolation allow even the most bashful child to find comfort in an area of familiarity behind a game they know.
Connecting Play, Socialization and Learning
Leveraging the phenomenal rise in the interest and growth of esports, organizations can join IGL Foundation’s goal of fostering social relationships amongst youth and families within the community, reduction of crime by giving students a safe place to play, creating environments of positive expression and partnering in its career development efforts for students. This program will give youth a safe, secure and consistent location to enjoy casual and competitive gaming competitions free of financial barriers and to be provided pathways to learning skills that will lead to meaningful high paying jobs or the opportunity to further their education at colleges and universities.
